Wieland Electric sets an example: Plug and play in the classroom

In December 2024, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Conference of Education Ministers reaffirmed their determination to make decisive progress in digital education in Germany through the new Digital Pact 2.0 with a total term of 6 years and to set the course for comprehensive digitalization of schools. The Digital Pact envisages an investment of a total of 5 billion euros, which will be divided between the federal and state governments. This is intended to resolve the investment backlog in this area at least. A crucial prerequisite for the digital infrastructure is to bring the necessary energy into the classroom. Not "back to basics", but "forward to basics".

Investment in installation – a win for architects, planners, and module builders

Especially in school construction, innovative and flexible installation solutions are in demand that can be seamlessly integrated into modern room concepts. This applies equally to renovations and new buildings – regardless of whether buildings are constructed in a classic or modular way. The gesis® installation column offers a safe, fast, and efficient solution for all cases.

Architects benefit from an elegant and space-saving solution that can be used without complex structural interventions, especially during renovations. Planners and builders benefit greatly from the decentralized, plug-in installation. This not only saves time but can also be easily adapted to future requirements.

Modular construction will continue to shape the construction industry in the future – prefabricated systems can be efficiently integrated into the construction method, guaranteeing rapid and smooth implementation. In addition, room automation that meets the requirements of the Building Energy Act (GEG) is indispensable.

An inconspicuous space miracle

The gesis® installation column offers the necessary space for automation, protection, switching devices, IT components, and other installations. Thanks to its flexible expandability and the ability to integrate a wide variety of trades – from energy supply to lighting technology and media technology – it creates the perfect basis for future-proof learning spaces. This not only accelerates digitalization in school construction but also makes it sustainable.

The room-high installation column serves as a central assembly unit and connection between floor and ceiling in every classroom. Thanks to industrially prefabricated components, the electrical installation is simply plugged together on-site.

The installation column is equipped with a variety of technical devices that are essential for teaching, including:
Sockets
Multimedia connections
Light sources
Blind buttons
Room temperature controls
A clock
Loudspeakers
A CO₂ warning display
Push-button alarms for emergencies

The electronics required for all these functions are installed inside. This means that all classroom technology is available in one place"all in" – and can be easily expanded or repaired in the future.

Pluggable system instead of tangled cables

In new buildings, the installation column can be installed under plaster or as a wall cabinet flush with the wall. It can also be mounted on plaster, which is particularly useful for renovations and subsequent installations. Cabinet doors provide easy access to the user and installation levels at all times.

What already offers many advantages in a single classroom multiplies these advantages when implemented in entire buildings. The installation of industrially prefabricated modules with plug-in system components in a modular system provides simple and future-proof structures.

Since many components are moved from the central technical room to the decentralized installation columns, less space and fewer technical rooms are required. This can result in time savings of up to 70% and cost savings of up to 30%.

Time factor

Extensive installation work on existing buildings is hardly possible during regular school operations and is therefore usually limited to school holidays. School renovations are thus subject to a very tight schedule and must be completed within these short time frames.

A problem? Not with the gesis® installation column featuring prefabricated plug-in elements from Wieland Electric. These enable a very high degree of prefabrication, making implementation significantly faster and more efficient.

All these advantages make this solution the top choice when it comes to the future digitalization of schools.
